There is a life that lives within your life
Beyond the A to B
The ebb and flow
Of bills and cash
Plans and aspirations
Beyond the newsfeed
The TV feed
The on demand,
Content consumption
Beyond the hunger
Separate
And a part of it,
All at once

Maybe you see it
Out of the corner of your eye sometimes,
Turn your head to catch it in the act
Maybe it whispers to you in your dreams,
The ones that fade on waking
And leave you with an enigmatic image,
A vague sense of unease

It changes things
So slowly you don’t notice
Until one day,
You no longer recognise yourself

It changes things so quickly
You can find yourself on the floor
Dazed, winded,
Grasping for any thread,
Of familiarity

It is monsters in the dark places,
Benevolent teachers
Misery and ecstasy
It is the hollow pain of grief
The light of wisdom

It is the falling apart
And the coming together

It is all at once,
Never,
And sometimes

It pays no heed,
To our binary expectations
It is the story,
This unknowable journey,
This weird adventure
